What to Expect on This Year’s Broadway Trip

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

One of my favorite day trips of the year is when PhilaU’s Campus Activity Board sponsors a trip to NYC to see a show on Broadway. For $25 you get your choice of one of two shows and the ticket price also includes round-trip transportation- what a deal! Last year I decided to sign up last minute in Kanbar with my friend Rebekah and it was such a great day. We saw Waitress in its opening week and I can honestly say that it was one of my favorite shows that I have ever seen. This year’s Broadway trip is this Sunday, April 23rd, and two shows are being offered – Kinky Boots and Anastasia. Here’s what to expect if you plan on going:

Without giving anything away, Kinky Boots is about a factory owner named Charlie who is struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with an exciting idea. Eventually the pair learns to embrace their differences and create “a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen!” My friends have raved about the music and swear that this show is sure to not disappoint.

Similar to Waitress last year, Anastasia will be in its first week when PhilaU students go this Sunday to see the show. Anastasia is about a brave young woman named Anya who sets out to discover the mystery of her past by moving from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s. She enlists the help of a lovable conman to help her dodge a ruthless Soviet officer. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.

This year, tickets for Broadway sold out within hours and unfortunately are no longer available for purchase. However, if you were able to get your hands on one, expect to be at the Ram statue at 7:45am on Sunday morning in order to catch the bus. See you there!
