J.K. Rowling Stands Up

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PS Berks chapter.

J.K. Rowling has been attacked on social media recently both before and after the election. She can be described as anti-Trump, and she’s not afraid to tell people that she feels strongly about certain topics. She does humanitarian work and has her own foundation, Lumos. Many people are telling her that she should mind her own business because she isn’t a US citizen. But the President’s travel ban reaches much further than American soil.

This exchange is becoming normal for Rowling to be having. I respect her for not letting herself get stepped on by others. She is handling these people with class. She is using humor and also Harry Potter references, but she isn’t being really negative about the situation. She isn’t playing the victim; she knows what she might be doing by speaking her mind and she is dealing with the consequences.

There’s a few people that are telling Rowling that they are burning her books for a variety of reasons. The message she is trying to get across is this- she believes in what she believes in. She doesn’t care that people are berating her for that. J.K. Rowling isn’t above having a conversation about different topics. It just should be noted that she was always defend her opinions under attack.
