Plain white walls and bare floors are boring! Give your room a personality and show the world who you are by following these tips.
1. Pick a Color Scheme
One way to make your dorm room look good is by bringing it all together with a good color scheme. Pick one or two colors you like and buy all your bedding, rugs and accessories in those colors. It’s a good idea to add neutral colors into the mix as well, it will give your chosen colors some contrast.
2. Add Some Inspiration
Staring at blank walls all day long can really bum you out, so find some inspiring decorations to hang around. A collage of pictures, quotes, posters and artwork always make a good choice to keep you inspired while you’re writing your essays and studying. Good conversation starters too for when friends come over!
3. Organization
Coming back to a cluttered dorm room everyday can give you extra stress, so before you start off the year, go out shopping for some bins and shelves to keep all your books, binders and belongings in order. It will help keep you stress free and successful later on in the year.
4. Calendars
Other than organizing your belonging, you will need to organize your daily schedule as well. Every college student has plenty of classes and extracurricular activities to keep track of so a calendar comes in handy. It’s a good idea to get one in wipe-off board or chalkboard form so you can easily make changes and even add some personalization. Buy a mini calendar book for your bookbag so you always know what your scheduled to do that day.
5. Lights
One thing almost every girl wants to put in her dorm is a cool string of lights. Some use Christmas lights while others go out and get fancy ones with lanterns or other interesting covers. Adding a string of lights creates a cheery touch to keep you in a good mood. Just make sure you’re not breaking any dorm room rules!
6. Personalization
Your dorm room is a reflection of your personality, so put your stamp on it. A lot of girls like find some way to put their names or initials in their room. Whether you want stickers, wooden letters or a simple banner, adding your name or initials to your room is like putting your signature on your work of art.
7. Bring Something from Home
A lot of the stuff you may be putting in your dorm room is probably new, and although new things can be fun and exciting, having something from home can give you comfort when the homesickness starts to kick in. It’s a good idea to bring a stuffed animal or blanket from home to cuddle when you get homesick or are just going through a difficult time.
Editor’s tip: Here at Her Campus Berks we love to get our holiday spirit on and go to Target to shop in the $1 section at the front of the store. Those bins are always full of window clings, wall decals, and other themed decorations depending on what holiday is coming up!
