Spotlight on Broadway: “School of Rock the Musical”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

One of the amazing perks of living downtown is the short ride to the wonderful world of Broadway.  There are so many shows at your disposal within a short distance! One show that I HIGHLY recommend is School of Rock!

School of Rock the musical is based on the classic movie School of Rock starring Jack Black and Miranda Cosgrove, remember when we all watched over and over again when we were in elementary school? The show includes music from Andrew Lloyd Webber and talented stars including Alex Brightman (Dewey) and Sierra Boggess (Rosalie).

For those of you who have not seen the movie STOP READING IMMEDIATELY so, the show will not be spoiled for you! The show is about a guitar player named Dewey who is kicked out of his band and is in danger of being kicked out of his apartment. His roommate is offered a position at a prestigious elementary school as a substitute teacher and Dewey impersonates him when he hears how much the pay is. Dewey brings his rocker flare to the students lives and teaches them that they can so anything that they put their mind to. Not only does Dewey create the rock band that he always dreamed of, but he also scores an awesome rocker chick! Check out the trailer here!

The talent in this show is impeccable! All of the performers perform live and some of the kids never started acting before they auditioned for the show! I wish I had an ounce of the talent that these kids have!

The show is located at 50th Street and Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre. You can get tickets online or at the box office. Fun fact: The show also offers rush tickets and lottery tickets online here. Make sure to follow the show on social media!
