Rihanna’s Diamond Ball: A Glimpse from the Outside

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

New York City is the crème de la crème of celebrity sightings, especially during New York Fashion Week when many of our favorite celeb’s are flawlessly serving looks all across Manhattan. Recognizable or not, these pop culture icons roam the streets with us full time college students, how cool is that? This fashion week, my friend and I decided to take matters into our own hands and attended an event worth more than our college tuition… at least from the barricade. So how did I become paparazzi for the night? Good question. Let’s just say it was nice stepping in their shoes for three hours.

But, waiting for the most acclaimed artist of the year and our personal favorite, Rihanna, was not on our agenda. But, as soon as we heard that RiRi would be on Wall Street for her infamous Diamond Ball, we made sure to visit the restaurant and casual celebrity dinner spot, Cipriani, where the event was being held. This was my favorite sighting of the night, besides the arrivals of other celebrities supporting the charity ball for Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation. This foundation helps impoverished communities around the world, one of the many reasons to love RiRi.

Within the first two hours, I caught the latest celeb scoop via dedicated paparazzi and witnessed the grand entrance of Cardi B, Future, La La Anthony, Emily Ratajkowski and many others. Standing outside of the entrance tent felt infinite but it was all worth it when Rihanna walked right past us. Plus, my Iphone was all the equipment needed to get through the night.

The best part of it all was when we were headed back to our dorm. Right behind Cipriani was Dave Chappelle, preparing for his speech. We basically accomplished meeting one of the coolest comedians ever! Who knew having a conversation with such an accomplished individual could feel so nonchalant? I mean, we were all basically BFFS for a minute or two. Being a student in such an eventful area is one of the many perks of attending college in the greatest city in the world. Turning into paparazzi is an experience of its own. Special occasions like Rihanna’s prestigious Diamond Ball wrapped up our fashion week perfectly, making it one of the best nights of my college experience thus far. We are definitely looking forward to NYFW next year.

Hey!   I am a student and a Campus Trendsetter at one of the Big Apple's coolest campus (Pace University)! I love hiking during the summer and exploring the city on my free time, along with Yelping on the coolest restaurants around the country. Although the Golden Coast is where home is at, taking on the "City that never sleeps" has become my latest adventure!
