On friday I went gallery hopping in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Since Pace is one stop, on the A, from Dumbo I’ve been there countless times but never realized just how many galleries there are! Each is located within a few blocks of eachother making it perfect for any afternoon no matter the weather. In between exhibitions you can take a break and enjoy the beautiful park alongside the East River or grab a bite to eat.
MINUS SPACE
Currently showing Robert Swain’s, Color as Color. This is a small gallery space that has outside windows incorporated in it’s layout. It’s smaller size allows you to enjoy Swain’s work in an intimate setting.

United Photo Industries
Just next door to MINUS SPACE you will find United Photo Industries. Currently showing Haley Morris-Cafiero – Wait Watchers (2017). United Photo Industries is also responsible for the Photoville project that takes over part of the Brooklyn Bridge City Park come September. If you have never experienced Photoville I highly reccomend. It is held outdoors and work is hung on brightly painted storage containers.

Smack Mellon
Currently showing the work of Linda Herritt, GREASE RUST SOOT SWEAT, one of Pace Universities professors. Smack Mellon is beautifully lit with floor to ceiling windows, making it the perfect space to appreciate Herritt’s work. This body of work was specifically designed for this space; she makes use of the high ceilings and exposed architecture.

A.I.R. Gallery
A.I.R. Gallery is an artist-run gallery space that aims to support risk–taking by women artists. One of my favorite aspects of their current exhibition was how interactive it was. The back room had various different mechanisms to create your own piece inspired by the themes present and manipulate the artists’ pieces on show.

Usagi
Usagi is a little different than your typical gallery space. It is a concept store that houses an art gallery, library, and cafe, all-in-one. In the front there is art on show, as you walk through the side-wall houses different products for purchase. In the back there is a café with couches and bookshelves where you can look at and purchase books. This blend of an environment is very welcoming to newcomers. A perfect place to take a coffee break between stops!
