Kristen Treat ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxy chapter.

This week’s Campus Celebrity is a gal you’ve all seen around campus – Kristen Treat ’14! On campus, Kristen is a Delta sister, involved with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, an O-Team leader, and many of you will know her as number 33 on Oxy Women’s Basketball, this year’s SCIAC regular season’s conference champions. She also works for Campus Dining Banquet Services and is biology major. So how does this well-rounded all-star stay focused and balanced?

“The key is to keep organized and on top of your assignments. Be productive with all your spare time,” she says. With so many activities, part of staying focused includes choosing the activities you really love. On her decision to join Delta Omicron Tau, Kristen says, “Joining a Greek organization has been one of the best decisions I have made here at Oxy. It’s great to know that wherever I am on campus, I almost always have a sister there.” As for O-Team, she says that the activity is a perfect fit for her because she gets to “show intense enthusiasm for Oxy for an entire week!”

Kristen brings that enthusiasm to all aspects of her life. Of life on the court, she says “the team is great. The community we have is fantastic, and my favorite part about basketball is getting to spend time with the friends I have made, including some of the best friends I have here at Oxy.” Though their season is over for now, fans of the Lady Tigers eagerly await their 2012-2013 season.

The biology major has big plans for this summer—she’s applied for research in Costa Rica, and if she goes, it’ll be the first time this native Southern Californian has ever been on a plane! And it’s no surprise to anybody that Oxy’s biggest heart wants to be a conservation biologist. Her life’s dream is to help keep the diversity of the planet alive.

Off the court, Kristen can be found checking in with her “baby tigers,” studying in the Green Bean, and making time for her friends. Her advice to new Tigers? “Come to Oxy with an open mind and dive into anything you’re interested in. You’ll never know what you can get out of the amazing community here until you get involved.” Of her last years at Oxy, she says, “I want to earn my biology degree while making memories with the great friends I have made here.” Here’s to that, Kristen!
