How to Be in the Audience of a TV Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxy chapter.

One of the coolest things about being in LA is that there is constantly something being filmed, whether it’s in Burbank, Hollywood, or right here on campus! Being in the audience of a TV show is definitely something that should be done before graduation.  Whether you want to watch your favorite talk show, sitcom or game show, it is actually pretty easy and costs no money!

Tickets are generally available from audience services and best of all they are free!  Here are some good websites for getting tickets.

You can also check a specific show’s website for ticket information.  When arriving at the taping, make sure to show up early to guarantee you get in.  Companies usually overbook because a lot of people make reservations and then flake out.

Your ticket will have specific instructions, but there are some general rules you can expect follow.  Dress well if there is a chance the audience will be shown on camera.  Some shows will specify business casual, whereas on sitcoms the audience will never be shown and you can wear whatever you want.  If you are well dressed, your chance of getting good seats and getting on camera goes up a lot.  Do not bring a camera, cell phone, or food with you into the studio, you will have to leave them with security.  Be quiet when you should be.  When attending a sitcom taping you should stay quiet while the cameras are rolling.  Other types of shows may encourage audience participation, so pay attention to what they ask of you.  Also bring a sweater, as studios are usually very cold!

If you have a large group, make sure to get in contact with a group services rep.  They may even pay you for bringing a large group and your likelihood of getting seats is much larger.

What show would you like to see taped? Will you try this fun and free LA experience?
