Registration for spring classes is coming up soon! Here are some tips to make sure you are as prepared as possible:
- Meet with your advisor early. Sign up for a time as soon as possible, they fill up quick!
- Create a list of all the classes you are interested in, with the times and professors included. Then you can make tentative schedules using that list.
- Course counts is super helpful when looking for classes! Go to myOxy -> Academics -> Course Counts. The drop down menus make looking up types of classes so simple.
- Have plenty of options. If you are dying to take a certain class, a bunch of other people probably are too.
- Be aware of class times, and how you will feel about them for the entire semester. A late night class might seem like a great idea now, but maybe you won’t actually love sitting in class while it’s dark out.
- Don’t be afraid to talk to a professor about getting off a waitlist. Many times they are willing, and if not thay may make sure you are able to take the class the next semester.
- If you have room in your schedule, try to take a fun class! There is nothing worse than being so stressed out because your classes are all too hard.
- Take classes you are interested in. One of the worst mistakes I made was taking two classes I didn’t care about at the same time, just to fulfill CORE requirements. I was glad to be done with CORE, but I also had no interest in two classes, which was not great for my GPA.
- When choosing CORE classes, try to take classes that fulfill more than one requirement. Most of them do, so it will be a great way to save room for your major’s classes.
- Use your best judgment when deciding whether to take a class with a friend. If it’s one you need a study group in, it will be good to have a study partner, but if your friend will talk to you during class and be a distraction, probably better to leave your BFF out of your class schedule.
Good luck!! I hope you are all able to get the classes you want!
