Why Cyber Monday Is Better Than Black Friday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

A few years ago, my family got all revved up about Black Friday. We had an early Thanksgiving dinner at a fancy restaurant and then headed to Wal-Mart to cash in on the best deals of the season. It was madness inside. I saw people fighting over a video game in the food aisle. In the end, my family and I walked away with some new pillows, an inflatable travel mattress and some tupperware.

This year, we didn’t do much Black Friday shopping. My mom, sisters and I went clothes shopping later in the day, rather than going out at 6 a.m.

Instead of intense Black Friday shopping, I went nuts this year with Cyber Monday shopping. Just looking at all the deals on Amazon made my bank account weep. Even worse, I had already ordered a good chunk of stuff on the Saturday and Sunday before the actual Cyber Monday sales started. I was ordering a different package every day of the week thanks to my Amazon Prime account.

Cyber Monday has become one of the most insane times of the season for holiday shopping, the best part being that the shopper doesn’t even have to leave home. However, Cyber Monday comes with its own downsides, such as increases in credit card theft and the inability to try on the clothing you’re buying. Despite this, the positives in Cyber Monday definitely outweigh the Black Friday positives. Here are some reasons why you should consider taking on Cyber Monday during your next holiday shopping season.

No Waiting In Line You’ll get what you need right away. There’s no need to deal with long lines to even get into the store!

You Can Shop Right From Home Don’t want to go outside in the snow? Don’t feel like leaving home? Why not shop online for all of your needs?

No Getting Into Physical Fights Over The Last Item Your life will not be threatened by the crazy lady who insists on getting that big screen TV.

More Exclusive Deals Some stores have deals on items that are only available online. Other stores may have the same item that’s in store online at a cheaper price. Do a little research and you could be saving yourself some money!

Faster and Even Free Shipping This is especially true if you’ve been doing all of your Cyber Monday shopping on Amazon and have a Amazon Prime account.

Still unsure if Cyber Monday is for you? Just know that it makes your holiday shopping a whole lot easier and it was a lot of fun when I tried it this year. If you want to take advantage of sales, Cyber Monday is the way to go.

Hello! My name is Ilyssa Weiner. I am currently a senior at SUNY Oswego with a major in Broadcasting and Mass Communication and a minor in Political Science. I live in the Catskills region of New York, just a little more than 2 hours away from NYC. When I'm not writing, I enjoy playing piano and singing, shopping, working out, and watching Netflix (or some sort of combination of the last two). I also love Chinese food, orca whales, dogs, chai tea, and music. My goal after graduation is to become either a digital content producer, become a writer for an online editorial or electronic news source, or work in any sort of television or radio production environment.
