Tie-Dye for a Cure

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, members of the Health Promotion and Wellness club and the Latino Student Union at SUNY Oswego gathered together in solidarity to fight breast cancer during a philanthropy event set out to inform students and raise money for breast cancer research.

The event featured a presentation given by Latino Student Union Director of Programming Ivanny Marcelino and Health Promotion and Wellness President Isiah Jewell with essential information about breast cancer, including symptoms to look for and tutorials on how to do self-examinations.

Both organizations then opened up the event to student participation in the form of do-it-yourself tie-dye shirts. To raise money to donate to breast cancer research, two dollars were collected from each person who wanted to make a shirt.

Latino Student Union Co-Director of Programming Susan Velazquez, who is also a staff writer at Her Campus Oswego, then gave participants a tutorial on how to tie-dye!

With money and awareness raised for breast cancer, a little mess, and a lot of laughs, fun was had by all, leading to an all-around successful event.
