This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

This week, I attended an Alpha Sigma Eta (English Honor Society) event with guest speaker, Rebecca Oliver.

Rebecca talked about her time at Oswego and how she built up her career to what it is today. She graduated from Oswego in 2007 and interned for Jane magazine while she was a student. After college, she worked at Forbes, which led to her current job at Seeking Alpha.

It was great to hear about an Oswego alum going on and doing great things. I (along with other people) get discouraged after hearing about how terrible the job market is and about how writing jobs are hard to find. Rebecca made it seem like it is possible; you just have to work hard.

She was more than willing to answer our questions at the end and was very friendly and helpful. I was also happy to know that it is possible to graduate with a journalism degree and be something other than a reporter. Rebecca got a job as an editor, which sounds perfect to me.

I think it’s great that Oswego alums come back to talk to us. I hope to be able to do the same someday and inspire a young mind.

I'm a junior. I like to read, watch T.V. and sleep. Aaaand that's it.
