May 11, 2013 - 7:16pm

‘Twas the last day of classes and the fun had begun, so students wore white T-shirts for Bridge Street Run. Students swamped Bridge Street on May 10, carrying out the Bridge Street Run tradition. Azteca, Old City and The Raven (to name a few) were some of the bars that were swarmed with students. Tradition states that students must hit all 15 bars on Bridge Street, beginning with The Front Door Tavern on the East side and ending with Greene’s Ale House on the West side. READ MORE

By Olga Reyes
April 26, 2013 - 10:36pm

Twenty-seven students and several professors awaited the arrival of author, screenwriter and director David Benioff in the small, warm conference room in Poucher Hall on April 24. Benioff’s novel City of Thieves was chosen as SUNY Oswego’s Oswego Reading Initiative book for the fall 2012 semester. Many of the EOP students in attendance read the book as part of the EDU 101 class. However, many students were also excited to be in the same room as the man who wrote the screenplay for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Troy and Kite Runner. Not to mention Benioff co-created a little HBO series called Game of Thrones, which is based on George R. R. Martin’s fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. READ MORE...

For many, this week at SUNY Oswego is very exciting because of Quest day. Some students and faculty will be presenting their scholarly pursuits, while the rest are just enjoying their Wednesday off! April 12, 2013 - 8:46pm

It’s the first thing you wake up to and the last thing you see before sleeping. You go into panic mode when you lose it and feel safe when it’s in your back pocket.     Cell phones have become a part of most of the world’s everyday necessity in the past 15 years. Technology has boomed into such a norm that even children as young as eight have a cell phone in their possession. But, is this mobile device sensation addicting? Walking around Oswego’s campus, there is not a person walking by without their cell phone in their hand or pocket no matter where they are. While eating in the dining halls, groups at each table rarely talk to one another because they are texting away. READ MORE

Blood Drive! Anyone walking through the campus center can clearly see that there’s a blood drive this week. Conveniently located in the Campus Center hockey arena, students can’t walk through the Campus Center without seeing kids laying on beds or drinking juice boxes at the recovery table. Donating blood is great, but there are some instances when things can just go wrong. READ MORE

Safe Sex

By Lesley Semel
March 29, 2013 - 5:33pm

Walking across campus people whisper about who they had been with the night before or how it’s great to make love with that special person you’ve been with for six months. But the question that is dodged most of the time is: Are you being safe?   It is important to have a basic knowledge on how to respect your body and prevent sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Schools incorporate sex education in health classes and seminars around campus. Television shows such as “16 and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom” illustrate the consequences of unsafe sex and the many issues that encompass one moment of misjudgment. Although students nod their head in agreement of protection, they might not be taking the topic seriously. READ MORE...
