What’s your favorite quote that you live by?

“Those who mind, don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.  It’s a Dr. Seuss quote; I have it tattooed on my back.”

How many tattoos do you have?

“I have two, one on my right shoulder blade and one on my right wrist that has my mom’s name in script.”

Awww, that’s so cute. Has it been hard being away from your mom?

“Yes!  I love my mom so much, it’s so sad.  Sometimes I get teary eyed when I’m walking back to my room by myself.  She is literally my best friend.”

How far are you away from home?

“I’m from Long Island.  I’m six hours away from home.  It sucks.”

How come you chose to go so far for school then?

Because my mom said I have to go to a SUNY school, and this school was the only one that had the classes I wanted to take and was interested to take for my major.”

What are some techniques that you have done for yourself to cope with homesickness that you can share with others dealing with a similar situation?

“My brother made a group chat with all of us so we text all the time.  I also FaceTime my mom.  And meeting people that you are comfortable with helps because it makes you feel like you’re not an outcast and you’re at ‘home.’”
