10 Songs Everyone Needs on Their Fall Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

Back to school season is officially upon us, and while we are trying to balance getting used to classes, homework, having a social life, and getting enough sleep at night, who has time to find new music to listen to?! Lucky for you, we’ve got you covered. Check out these 10 songs that everyone needs to add to their fall playlist this semester.

1. Spice Girl by Amine

This song is perfect for getting ready to go out with your girls after a grueling week of classes. The fun, upbeat melodies are perfect for getting hyped up — plus, what group of girls doesn’t want to be the Spice Girls? Let’s be real here.

Listen if you’re a fan of: D.R.A.M., Vic Mensa, Mac Miller

2. Young Dumb & Broke by Khalid

Though thinking of yourself as dumb and broke isn’t the ideal headspace, this funky R&B tune is absolutely crucial for blasting in the car — windows down and all. After a long day, “Young Dumb & Broke” makes you want to scream the lyrics out as loud as you can.

Listen if you’re a fan of: Frank Ocean, SZA, Miguel

3. Somebody Else by The 1975

If you’re a 1975 fan, you know this song is an oldie but a goodie. “Somebody Else,” is the perfect crossover of pop, electronic and indie. To be completely honest, it’s the heartbreak song to listen to after a tough night (or day). Even with sad lyrics that tug at your heartstrings, the catchy beat will have your feet moving (even if there’s tears streaming down your cheeks. Don’t worry, we’ve been there).

Listen if you’re a fan of: Bad Suns, The Neighbourhood, The Wombats

4. Drew Barrymore by SZA

If you haven’t heard of SZA by now, you must be living under a rock. The R&B artist released her second album Ctrl over the summer, a 14 track record filled with the sad girl anthems we all needed. “Drew Barrymore” is an incredibly relatable ballad that will have you wondering how SZA knows exactly how you were feeling.

Listen if you’re a fan of: Khalid, Jhene Aiko, PARTYNEXTDOOR

5. See You Again by Tyler, The Creator featuring Kali Uchis

Formerly known as the ringleader of hip hop supergroup Odd Future, Tyler, The Creator has had a controversial musical career, but finally hit the nail on the head with his new album Flower Boy. “See You Again” is an equally R&B and rap heavy song, with lyrics touching on what it feels like to be completely infatuated with someone.

Listen if you’re a fan of: Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller

6. Happy Judgement Day by Neck Deep

This pop punk anthem goes out to those of us that need to blast pissed off, guitar centered jams after a bad day. “Happy Judgement Day” comes off Neck Deep’s most recent album, The Peace And The Panic, an outspoken record coming to terms with the social, economic, and political issues of today.

Listen if you’re a fan of: Modern Baseball, State Champs, Knuckle Puck

7. Green Light by Lorde

After being in hiding for four years, Lorde released her second album, Melodrama, earlier in the year. The New Zealand native chose “Green Light” as the leading single for the record, and it’s no surprise why. The upbeat pop anthem is a guaranteed good mood tune. Blast this song when you’re working out, getting ready, or on your way to class — it’s perfect for nearly every occasion when you need to be pumped up.

Listen if you’re a fan of: Ellie Goulding, Marina and The Diamonds

8. Home by Dan Croll

This soft-spoken tune nearly feels like the epitome of a cozy fall day. Plus, it’s a go-to song for those days where you’re feeling a little homesick. With nostalgic lyrics that will remind you of the reasons why there’s no place like home, this track needs to be on your fall playlist.

Listen if you’re a fan of: Glass Animals, The Drums, Death Cab For Cutie

9. Heartbreaker by Bad Suns

Besides the fact that this indie rock song is generally super catchy and fun, “Heartbreaker” is great for those heartbroken moments everyone deals with in college. Complete with a catchy chorus, relatable lyrics, and fun melodies, what else could you want in a break-up song?

Listen if you’re a fan of: Two Door Cinema Club, The Killers, The Vaccines

10. Love Galore by SZA featuring Travis Scott

Our last song is yet another gem by 2017’s hottest R&B artist – and complete badass – SZA. Whether you’re pre-gaming to go out, getting your workout in, or getting ready for a long day of classes, “Love Galore” is guaranteed to make you feel strong and empowered, all thanks to SZA’s dreamy voice and relatable lyrics.

Listen if you’re a fan of: Tyler, The Creator, Khalid, Jhene Aiko
