Homework is done, hot cocoa is brewing, fuzzy socks are on and snuggies are brought out for the crisp chill air. With Halloween so near and costumes already on hangers, what else can you do to keep the Halloween spirit thriving? Netflix, that’s what! The ultimate savior for when the air outside stings your face or even when you want a fun night inside with your “homies” or the “bae.” Here are some must-see movies playing on Netflix now!

1. “Carrie” (1976 & 2013) R

Netflix has both, the old version and the remake. Who doesn’t love a movie centered on the supernatural? It is based on an outcast high school student who is sheltered by her religious mother with telekinesis who is sheltered by her religious mother and unleashes her wrath upon her town.

2. “World War Z” (2013) PG-13

Many doubted Brad Pitt and thought that this film would be a disaster, but it actually ended up being an astonishingly effective zombie flick on a global scale. As a United Nations employee, Pitt’s character, Gerry Lane, tries to overcome the Zombie pandemic taking over the world. And c’mon, who doesn’t want to see Brad Pitt in action.

3. “You’re Next” (2011) R  

It is a mind skewer and has a brutally gruesome twist. When masked killers attack a family during a wedding anniversary getaway, they come to realization that one of their victims is more disturbing than them. 

4. “The Possession” (2012) PG-13

Want a good spook? Try watching a film based on true events. The movie is about an antique box containing an ancient evil spirit that curses anyone who owns it. It will make you wonder if one of your boxes are haunted after watching this film.

5. “The Blair Witch Project” (1999) PG-13

Three film students vanish mysteriously after traveling to a forest in Maryland to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch Legend, only leaving their footage behind. Dun, dun, dun … What do you think you will see in the footage? You have to check it out!

6. Insidious: Chapter 2”(2013) PG-13

If you have seen part one you are in good shape because part two picks up where the first film left off. Although in this film, the husband, Patrick Wilson, may not have come back as himself. The Lambert family seeks to uncover the secret that has left them connected to the spirit world.

7. “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991) R

This movie proves that you do not need a ton of blood and gore to be scared straight. It’s a great classic about a young F.B.I. cadet who must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer in order to catch another serial killer. 

8. “The Cabin in the Woods”(2012) R

This one acquires a certain type of audience. It is horror, comedy and conspiracy all in one. Five friends take a vacation at a remote cabin in the forest and need to discover the truth behind the strange things that are happening to them. The movie works as a masterful separation of its horror film prototypes.

9. “Devil” (2010) PG-13

Imagine being one of the five strangers who is trapped in an elevator and one of the strangers happens to be the devil? Watch the movie and see who the devil is disguising himself as!

10. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984) R

You can’t have a horror movie binge-night without a classic movie. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, this should be at the top of your list. It is about a teenage boy who is haunted in his dreams by Freddy Krueger, a spectral child murderer, who is out to possess him. Why? You need to watch to find out. 

What better way to keep the Halloween spook feeling going then to heat up some popcorn, throw on comfy clothes, turn the lights off and binge-watch horror films. There are tons of great movies that will have the popcorn tossed in the air for sure. Good luck and happy nightmares!
