Okay, ladies, if you’re looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday afternoon, are getting a little tired of Oval Beach AND want to do some good in the community, then look no further. This Saturday, May 12, Nourish International in partnership with Global Gallery and Students for Fair Trade are hosting the Midwest Fair Trade Fest at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau. The festival will feature music, dancing, crafts and food from around the world. The event is meant to raise awareness of the importance of fair trade and how it helps communities around the world. At the event, you will also be able to learn more about local fair trade and green issues through discussions, films and demonstrations held throughout the building. There is a $5 entrance fee, but this fee gives you access to all of the activities for the entire day.

Apart from the festivities, there will also be a thrift store fashion show hosted specifically by Nourish International. Nourish International is a non-profit student organization on campus with the mission to eradicate poverty by engaging students and empowering communities. Currently, the organization is working on fundraising for their summer sustainability project in Northern Uganda. All proceeds raised from the fashion show will go to support this trip. In Uganda, they will be traveling to a very poor community with high infant mortality rates. There, they will raise awareness of the importance of health and sanitation issues in the community. They will also work to increase the availability of facilities for proper health and sanitation at the community level as well as the number of trained village health officials.

The fashion show will feature students modeling “all green” outfits. All models are student volunteers and put together their own outfits. The show begins at 12:45 PM, but be sure to get there early for a good seat.
