Reworking Your Vintage

Something that I love about Columbus is all of the vintage shopping. Going to these stores is like taking a trip to the past, just like in the new movie from Paramount, Project Almanac, which hits theaters this Friday, January 30. Getting these pieces to work in your current wardrobe can be a challenge at times but fear not, I have a few quick tips to help you make the transition flawlessly.

My first tip is to add a classic piece to the ensemble. Something like a crisp white blouse with vintage mom jeans can make it more modern. I have a vintage skirt that I love to throw on a crop top with when it’s warm and in the colder months an oversized sweater does the trick as well.

Keep your shoes and accessories modern. A pump or strappy heel with a 50’s skirt, add boots to a bohemian look from the 70’s, or strappy sandals and animal print to break up the monochrome of the 60’s can make the clothing more appropriate for today. Adding chic accessories like a statement necklace, scarf or belt can also add the same effect.

Making alterations is a great tool when looking to update vintage clothing. You can cut a skirt, top, pants and even sleeves to make them shorter, add studs or gems to a jacket or shoe, or dye something to a new color. The possibilities are endless.

And lastly, one of the most important parts of wearing vintage is having the confidence and rocking your newly reworked vintage.
