The Return of the Real Housewives of Orange County

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

Did you know that the Real Housewives of Orange County was the first ever reality TV series to showcase the fascinating lives of wealthy, beautiful housewives?  Back in 2006, Bravo aired the first season; the wildly addictive show is now about to begin its seventh season.  The first episode of the season is set to air Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 9:00 PM—so read on to get caught up from seasons past!

The reality TV series features a cast of women who live in Orange County, a wealthy and opulent community in southern California.  Each season is more drama-packed than the last—along with even more plastic surgery.  One thing that has not changed throughout the seasons, however, is the constant presence of housewife Vicki Gunvalson.  In the first couple seasons, Vicki was more independent and reasonable than the other women—but in season three, everything changed when she became best friends with a younger (and more tan!) housewife Tamra Barney.  Vicki and Tamra formed a strong alliance, and together they have caused drama and problems with the other women.  Tamra is known for getting into fights with other women, and her influence on Vicki has been profound.  Case in point, in the last season, Tamra poured her cosmopolitan all over former real housewife Jeana Keough.  The new season is sure to include more of Tamra getting into verbal and sometimes physical fights with the other housewives.

The new season also includes housewives Gretchen Rossi and Alexis Bellino from the most recent season.  Gretchen is younger than the other women and was constantly criticized in the past seasons for being engaged to a man that was 23 years older than her.  Gretchen’s fiance passed away and the women thought Gretchen had only been engaged for the money.  Gretchen became best friends with Alexis Bellino when Alexis joined the cast in season five.  Alexis is married to a very wealthy, controlling man and Vicki and Tamra think Alexis is artificial.  Gretchen and Alexis are able to get along due to their similar personalities.

Even with the considerable amount of existing drama, more drama is in the forecast, due to the newest cast addition, Heather Dubrow.  Heather is surprisingly not like the other housewives, with her brown hair and previous acting career.  Nevertheless, she is similar to the other housewives as a stay-at-home mom of four children who is married to a wealthy plastic surgeon.  With Heather being added to the cast, there is sure to be an uprising of jealously and drama.  It is already said that Heather has a problem with housewife Alexis, because she believes Alexis is everything but genuine.  Bravo has never mentioned whether the show is scripted or not, but either way these women are likely to entertain you on Tuesday nights!
