Navigating the Hair Products Aisle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

When it comes to walking down the aisle of hair products it can be overwhelming. There are so many brands that all promise wonderful results. However there are some that work and others that do not live up to their promise. I enjoy trying out new hair products and here are some of my personal favorites that I have had success with over the past few years !

1.     Shampoo and Conditioners: The largest and possibly the most confusing products to pick from, shampoo and conditioner. What works well for your friends may not always work as well for you . All hair types are different! The best way to find the best shampoo and conditioner is to try to buy sample sizes. I have tried many price ranges of different shampoo and conditioners.

2.     Leave-in conditioners: There are so many leave in hair conditioners. However over the past few years I have tested many and few give the results of It’s a 10 professional Haircare. At first the price for such a small bottle may be alarming, but the results are truly incomparable. This product delivers exactly what it promises. No matter how dry or damaged your hair is or whether you just want extra soft hair, this product is for you. 3.     Hairspray: It is important after all that time you spend styling that it will last all day. When picking out a hairspray a flexible hold hairspray is what I always go for. It gives the right amount of hold without looking like you are wearing any. However for a sleeker look I would go with something that is a maximum hold. One of my favorite brands has been Tresemme . They offer a wide range of holds as well as a range of spray types. From aerosols to traditional sprays. An aerosol will give a light mist, while a traditional spray gives a heavier feel.

4.     Heat Protectant: This product is often overlooked but when used in your daily hair routine the difference is amazing. Every brand has their own heat protectant. When trying to decide, consider the brand and whether or not you enjoy their other products. Some heat protectants are put in while your hair is damp and others while your hair is dry. I would recommend a product that goes in your hair while it is damp (sometimes these can double as a leave in conditioner!) that way whether you are blow drying your hair or letting your hair air dry and then styling it you are protected. Matrix heat resist iron tamer, has recently became my favorite. It provides protection for both heat tools as well as when blow drying.

5.     Salt Sprays: With summer coming around the corner that wavy hair is perfect. Salt sprays start showing up everywhere and they all appear to have the same affect. However some tend to be a lot heavier while others give a lighter feel.  For something in the middle, Bumble and Bumble See Salt spray is a happy medium. With just a few sprays of this product you can have light texture that can be built up, depending on your hair type. It provides moisture, while still incorporating real ingredients from the sea ! This product  is great for a quick and easy summer look.

If you can’t decide on a product or are unsure of what to pick, online reviews are the best ! You can see what others have experienced with a product. However sometimes in life you need to take a chance and a new hair product might just be that chance you should take.
