How I Plan On Rocking My Staycation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

If you sometimes get the feeling that you’re missing out because you’re not spending this college spring break in Frat Lauderdale or Panama City shotgunning beers on the beach with your girl gang and listening to EDM until your ears bleed, you’re not alone. Coming to terms with a staycation can be hard sometimes knowing you’re going to come down with a really bad case of FOMO, but I promise spening the week at home can be just as fun, and a lot more rewarding. After spending the last month drowning in papers, midterms, and extracurriculars, I couldn’t be happier to say I’m heading home this spring break 2017. I have a list of things for all my staycationers that I can’t wait to do!

ORGANIZE + REARRANGE

There is nothing better for your head and your mornings than having a clean closet, and fresh room. Even though I don’t live at home for the majority of the year, it will make packing and unpacking so much easier. If you find anything you don’t want anymore, try and donate it to Plato’s Closet or Goodwill, not only will you make more room but you could also make some money! Clean closets might not help with the “I have nothing to wear” problem, but it will definitely help with the “Where is that one shirt” problem. Rearranging the furniture in your room is also a good way to change things up and make the space different and fun to be in.

GO TO A SHOW

If you live by any city or urban area, there is bound to be a show or concert going on. Broadway’s “Mama Mia” is coming when I am home and I am so excited I snagged tickets! Get dressed up and have a fun night and see a show you’ve always wanted to see! Or you could check out a concert. There are always things happening at smaller venues and it could be a great way to discover some local artists.

CREATE

Everytime I am  on Pinterest or Facebook, I always see really awesome Tasty Videos or DIY’s that I always say I want to try. Well now’s the time! I did some exploring on Youtube and found some awesome DIY videos on how to build a cheap and easy neon light sign for my room that I can’t wait to try. Plus with all the Tasty videos I have saved, I know I have projects and recipes that could keep me busy (and full) for days.

TREAT YOURSELF

Return to campus with the best nails, hair, and skin ever. You deserve it! After all the stress we go through during the bulk of the semester, mental health days are so important! So go to the spa or get a mani pedi or do something different to your hair! (Or do all 3) I personally cannot wait to pamper myself for the day(s) when I go home.

So maybe you’re not packing a carry on bag and your favorite sun hat, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time. After all, you deserve some much needed RnR, and that doesn’t mean it has to be on a beach.
