End of the Year Stress and How to Deal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

They call this the most wonderful time of the year, and I would have to agree. I love the last crisp days of fall turning into winter, I love holiday coffee drinks, and I love how happy everybody is. But this time of year also has its downfalls. Between studying for finals, trying to say goodbye to friends before you head home for a month, and holiday gift shopping, how’s a girl to stay sane? It’s easier than you might think.

Don’t Forget to Sleep
I have pulled more all-nighters in my day than I’d care to admit. I work better under pressure in the middle of the night, and I’ve found I’m not alone in this. However, I’ve realized this season that even though that might be what I’ve always done, the price I pay is my sanity. The stress I cause myself is detrimental to me and everyone around me because I worry about my assignments longer than I need to. So get your work done ahead of time so you can get those 8 hours and be better prepared to tackle the next day.

Exercise
I don’t know about you, but my best workouts happen when I’m upset or stressed out. And afterwards, I have a clear head and feel revitalized and ready to take on my to do list. So get your cute self to the gym and do your body some good!

Look Your Best
I am all for comfort, but I always feel like I have a better handle on my life when I look put together. Rock a cute outfit and that new lipstick you’ve been too nervous to wear. If you are confident in how you look, that’s one less thing to worry about!

Procrastinate Productively
When you hit a study wall, Facebook is usually the go to distraction method. Why not get some holiday shopping done instead? Try a quirky site like Etsy. It’s so fun to look through-it kind of reminds me of Pintrest- and you’ll be able to check some gifts off your list at the same time!

Be Grateful
At the end of the day, we are all so lucky to be able to worry about finals and what to give to the ones we love. If any of it ever feels overwhelming, take a step back, take a deep breath, and just be happy for your friends, family, and opportunities.
