Campus Cutie: Katherine Liska

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Name: Katherine Liska

Age: 20, almost 21

Hometown: Bend, Oregon

Major: Double major in sociology and planning, public policy, & management.

HCO: What do you want to do when you graduate?

KL: I want to work in the public sector, writing and analyzing policy. I also want to spend some time traveling and doing charitable work.

HCO: Why did you come to UO?

KL: I came to the UO because I wanted to go to stay in Oregon for college and after going on a tour of the school the atmosphere really stood out to me. The academics at UO also really appealed to me.

HCO: What’s your favorite type of music and why?

KL: I listen to almost every type of music – usually depending on the time of year. My favorites are typically alternative rock or folk bands. In winter, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, The Decemberists, and Frightened Rabbit are usually what I listen to.

HCO: If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

KL: All I can think of this time of year is how cold it is, which is why I think it would be great to be a migratory bird, like a warbler. I also really want to fly.

HCO: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

KL: I used to be really good at studying languages, I learned Spanish, Latin, French, American Sign Language, and Italian. At the time I was really good at speaking them. But, because I didn’t use anything after I stopped taking the classes, I forgot most of them.

HCO: What is something that you want to accomplish in your lifetime?

KL: I don’t have one specific goal that I can accomplish at one point. Instead, my main goal for my life is to do as much as I can to improve people’s lives. The only thing I’ve been sure about through changing majors and trying to decide what I want to do after graduating is that if it isn’t something that directly helps others, then I won’t find it fulfilling.

HCO: Who do you most admire in life and why?

KL: The person I admire most in life is my mother. She is caring, smart, and talented. She is so strong and is truly the heart of my family. I can only hope that I will be able to do what I love for a living and take care of my family the way she does.

HCO: What do you feel most proud of?

KL: I feel proud of myself whenever I feel that I’ve helped someone or done something good for the community. That is why I will always want to help people in the future, nothing is more rewarding.

HCO: What has been your favorite memory in college thus far?

KL: I don’t think I could choose one specific memory as a ‘favorite’. I will say that I’ve had some fun encounters with raccoons on campus.

HCO: Where is somewhere that you’ve always wanted to travel to?

KL: I want to travel all over the world, especially to see all different cultures. One trip I’ve always talked about going on to Australia with my sisters, backpacking through national parks or nature reserves.
