What It’s Really Like to Have Two Older Sisters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

Now that I am older, I realize that having two older sisters is the best. But there were times when I thought it was the worst thing in my tiny little world. I was the baby; the youngest (for a while) and I looked up to those two girls a lot growing up. Of course I love them, but there were definitely times when I wanted to do nothing more than rip their pretty hair out of their pretty heads. Despite that, here are a dozen examples of what it’s like having two older sisters:

1. From the moment I was born, I was blessed with two best friends.

2. Two clothing inspirations to go off of.

I didn’t aim to annoy either of them by copying them any chance I got (though that was totally an added benefit). I really appreciated both of their styles and made mine a combination between the two of theirs.

3. Always having someone to match outfits with.

4. On-demand resume editors.

Life is hitting me like a ton of bricks and whenever I need someone to look at my resume or cover letter I always have someone to go to.

5. Confidence boosters.

I always have two on deck, even when I’m fishing for compliments.

6. I have two people who understand and encourage my Disney obsession.

This shouldn’t come as a shock considering we’ve always been princesses.

7. Always having people to vent to.

It’s cool having two older sisters who are pretty different. Whatever the reason for my nagging, one of them tells me like it is, no matter what; and the other will help me find the bright side to any situation. (I appreciate it more than they know.)

8. I’ll always know when I’ve done / am doing something ridiculous.

They are not afraid to tell me when I’m acting like an idiot, and it may hurt my feelings at the time but they mean those nasty comments out of love. …Right, guys? ;)

9. Sometimes I was left out.

Being the youngest for a long time meant missing out on some adventures I was too young for. It sucked watching those two all excited getting ready for things that I wasn’t allowed to go to yet. I was sure the world was punishing me for not being born earlier.

10. I was teamed-up on.

They were the oldest, and had more control over me than I imagine a lot of other siblings had. I was always the one forced into waking up the parents on Christmas and Easter mornings (I hated waking the sleeping bears) or being the beggar when we wanted something. I’m going to believe it’s because I’m the cutest and would always make sure we got our way. ;)

11. Allies for life.

I vow to always have their back like they have mine.

12. Last but not least – I miss them more as the years go on.

Being away from the two of them a lot throughout the year makes me really appreciate those times we’re together.

I could list hundreds of reasons as to why I’m lucky to have two older sisters to look up to. Life has been pretty great with the two of you by my side. Love Ya!
