College: Told by the Gilmore Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

Rory and Lorelai are the epitome of every college girl.  Their witty remarks and peculiar experiences just about cover every scenario us women find ourselves in.  If you haven’t seen this show, I would strongly recommend paying a monthly subscription to Netflix to witness the storyline of the Gilmore family. It will provide you with life lessons and a good laugh that we all need to distract us from the chaos of our schoolwork. Sit back, relax, and indulge on this wonderful series.

1. When you have loads of work to do and are having post-spring break blues

That’s right. Listen to Lorelai. Distract yourself with chocolate, junk food and romance movies. After all, isn’t that what we do best? Life is too short to dwell on our anxiety and often a break like this, will recharge your battery and increase your productivity!

2. When the boy you met last night didn’t text you back

Shocker! He was interested but then forgot to call you this morning. Oh well, life goes on. Put on your favorite outfit and hang with the girls. After all, it’s his loss. On to the next!

3. Walking into the dining hall

Is that chicken patties again? Or roadkill? Ugh how many weeks until we can go home and actually eat a real home cooked meal?

4. Monday Mornings

The answer to every problem is caffeine. Luckily, Oneonta is a town that has a source of coffee within a mile radius from just about any location. Set that alarm nice and early and get a good start to your week by sipping on some java. If you don’t like coffee either suck it up or try tea!

5. Friday nights

You’ve literally been counting the hours minutes and seconds until it was the weekend and put zero thought into what you were going to wear. Well, that’s what friends are for right? Looks like you will be borrowing the outfit your bestie wore last week.

6. When your professor assigns you a 50 paged paper, 12 chapters to read and expects you to set aside time to review your notes before next class.

Excuse me professor, but believe it or not… this isn’t the only class I am enrolled in this semester! Sometimes teachers are inflexible, but don’t sweat it. Work diligently and prioritize to get as much done as you can. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

I don’t think there is a better show to display the struggles of us women.  Thank you to Rory and Lorelai, as well as Netflix for feeding into our Gilmore Girl obsession!
