Leading Jazz Magazine Features SUCO ProfessorBy February 25, 2011 - 11:33pm The March issue of Downbeat Magazine profiles Dr. Arthur Falbush of the SUNY Oneonta Music Department and his work as co-director of the Proctors Summer Jazz Institute. Downbeat, the world’s leading jazz magazine, featured the program because of its uncommon philosophy of teaching improvisational music. The Proctors Summer Jazz Institute is one of New York state’s largest summer jazz programs. Its curriculum, developed by Falbush and co-director Keith Pray, is unique in contemporary jazz education because every aspect of the performance is accomplished through listening with no written music, whatsoever. SUCO'S Poetry Slam Team Triumphs at Regional Poetry Slam Competition!By February 12, 2011 - 7:47pm On Saturday, February 5, the SUNY Oneonta poetry slam team won the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) regional poetry slam championship held at SUNY New Paltz. Grant will help SUNY Oneonta Historian Write History of Peruvian RegionBy February 6, 2011 - 12:00am Assistant Professor Miguel León of the History Department at SUNY Oneonta has received a grant from the Ancash Association commissioning him to write a book on the history of Conchucos, a region in the north-central highlands of Peru. León’s book of approximately 250 pages will be used as the basis of three secondary-school textbooks that a publishing company will assemble with a commission from the Ancash Association, an organization supported by the Antamina mining company of Peru.
