5 Ways to Get Over That College “Funk”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

I am no expert in how to deal with feeling down and losing motivation, but from experience I know that it can happen to anyone, especially college students. Sometimes finding motivation to get things done can be hard and you might feel like there is no getting over it. But I hope these tips help those who have felt this way or are feeling this way and want to get over that college funk.

1. Set Goals / Make a Vision Board

One thing I think is helpful is setting goals for yourself. You can set short or long term goals, whichever you think would help you best. After you make your goals you should put them in an area where you can see them everyday. If you keep your goals in a visible place it will be easier for you to accomplish them. If you are more of a creative person, I definitely suggest making a vision board. That way you can see goals you have in life in a more creative way. Ultimately I think that seeing your goals will help you stay motivated when times get rough.

2. Exercise

I am sure many people have heard that this helps get out you of a funk, and I think it’s very true. Anything that gets you moving can help you feel better. What’s nice about Oneonta is that if you don’t like actually going to the gym they offer fitness classes. I love a good Zumba class; it really helps you forget about that funk you are in.

3. Get Outside

Getting outside and taking a walk can always help you with any down feeling you are having. A perfect spot in Oneonta is the Pond at Hunt. There is nothing better than just sitting on the deck and looking out at the water. It’s super relaxing and helps you forget things for a while.

4. Listen to Music

Sometimes just putting your headphones in and listening to music is the cure for all. Put a mood boosting playlist on and get lost in the music.

5. Embrace it!

Sometimes you should simply embrace the funk you’re in. Stay in, watch some Netflix and order some pizza. Maybe you just need a break. You don’t always have to find ways to get out of it, you should just embrace it, and that alone could help you.

Just remember, everyone goes through it and you are a queen so adjust your crown and you will get over that funk!
