10 Things You Have To Try Before Graduating SUNY Oneonta

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

As I start another semester here at SUNY Oneonta, I’ve been thinking about all the unique things this town and campus have to offer. With each semester comes a new learning experience, and with that, a new perspective and adventure ahead! Here’s a list of ten things any SUNY Oneonta student should think about experiencing before graduation approaches!

10. Get on the school’s website

Hey, I’ve definitely always wanted to, and in a town as small as Oneonta, you’re bound to be recognized by someone on campus for an autograph.

9. Have an all-nighter

Le’ts face it, at least one time in your college career this will happen. Whether it be because you procrastinated way too much on that ten-page paper or really need an A on that exam, this is inevitable with a college student’s jam-packed schedule.

8. Study abroad

Who wouldn’t want to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa?! Studying abroad can lead to the development of diversely cultured people while giving students the experiences they may never get in their lives again!

7. Sit in on a class

College is definitely a time where a lot of students are confused about their career paths. Even when graduation comes around a lot of students end up doing something not even near their major. So, sit in on a class you may like! You never know what interests you will develop in college and at a school with so many diverse majors.

6. Try every menu item in the dining hall

It’s no secret that Oneonta dining hall plan is one of the best out of the SUNY system. With its unlimited buffet there’s no reason to dabble in a little bit of everything!

5. Friday night hang at the Dragon’s Lair Gaming Room in Hunt Union

Ok, whether this may be a spot you thought you would never find yourself in, or just your niche, this is a good place to make memories. Even if gaming isn’t your thing, The Dragon Lair at Hunt Union allows for students to hangout, converse and maybe even dabble in some guitar hero! On Fridays it’s open until 1AM and Saturdays until 12AM.

4. Join a new club on campus

Whatever year you may be, there’s definitely a club that will fit any interests you may have! Some of the clubs on campus include the Economics club, the Harry Potter club and, of course with all the snow we get here in upstate NY, the Oneonta Ski club!

3. Get to know the food around town!

This may be an obvious one because after all who doesn’t like food! But, some of the more popular restaurants and establishments in Oneonta are Tino’s pizzeria, Yellow Deli and the Gooch hot dog stand. All three of these are students’ favorites!

2. Go to the farmer’s market!

Every Saturday from May to October on the Main Street Plaza from 9am – 1pm is the Oneonta Farmer’s Market. This market allows for people of all ages to indulge in some freshly grown vegetables, flowers and even homemade honey!

1. Try every Oneonta cab company!

Ok, maybe not every single one. But, the Oneonta taxis do save students from having to take all those buses to and from Walmart. Most taxi companies will charge only $2-$4 per person if there are four or more in the taxi! Definitely use it to your advantage!
