Why Ole Miss Basketball Games Are Underrated

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ole Miss chapter.

Football is the hallmark of Southern schools – especially Ole Miss. Southern gamedays are legendary, but what is just as fun? Ole Miss Basketball! Here are just a few reasons that Ole Miss basketball games are worth a try:

1. Free Entry

No risks here! While the price of student football tickets climbed to $140 for a home season pass this year, basketball games are free with a Student ID.

2. Free Stuff

Free T-shirts are put on every seat in the student section for every game! They are designed locally and are usually funny and worth grabbing. Also, the legendary T-shirt cannon always makes an appearance and is often times accompanied by more giveaways.

3. Jumbo Tron Action

It’s hard to stand out in the giant Vaught-Hemingway stadium, but it is relatively easy to get your face featured on the big screen in the close-knit student section of the Pavilion! Plus there are fun breaks like “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader” and the “Smile Cam.”

4. Air Conditioning

Football games are often played in either the sweltering heat or freezing cold. Basketball games are always indoors!

5. Fast Pace

Basketball is played at a much faster pace than football, and the games are often shorter too. If you love action and have a shorter attention span, basketball is the sport for you.

6. Celebrity Appearances

Morgan Freeman is a known frequenter of both men’s and women’s Ole Miss Basketball games. Who knows who else you might see?

7. Comradery

The student section at any Ole Miss sporting event is always rowdy and full of the best classmates in America, but the basketball games are significantly soberer and friendlier. Plus, you and all of your new friends will get to leave sharing the secret that Ole Miss Basketball games are the place to be!
