I spent the past weekend flying from Memphis to Florida and back within 48 hours. I was inspired to take a few minutes and think about all the things I just really love about flying, and the whole airport experience in general.

  1. I love how every airport has their own security measures, so it’s always a nice surprise! I especially enjoy that the Memphis airport makes you take out all of your class books, and you get questioned as to why you have 2 textbooks about the Middle East and Islam.
  2. I love when they have 2 officers working the security line, 1 officer for us regular folk, and 1 who is just sitting there aimlessly, just in case any passengers who can afford to pay a little extra may walk through. Class system in airports is so real.
  3. I love when they have a Starbucks right before security! Don’t mind if I do spend an absurd amount of money on a vanilla latté just to throw it away right when I’m in security. I do love seeing how fast I can chug hot coffee!!
  4. As a young adult who has never had children, I really love how rude passengers are to parents who are already dealing with fussing children. I think it really adds to their day when everyone that walks by stares and rolls their eyes and makes them feel like the worst parent in the world. Such fun!
  5. I love the middle seat. Getting to know 2 random strangers and not move your legs for the entire plane ride? Ideal.
  6. How could I forget? I LOVE when the airline doesn’t actually assign me a seat, so seconds before I’m supposed to be boarding I get to run up to the monitor, search for the first 3 letters of my last name, and squint really hard to find my seat assignment. It’s like a little scavenger hunt I never wanted!
  7. Last but certainly not least, I love looking out the plane window and seeing all the luggage being literally THROWN around, and crossing my fingers that today is not the day they break off all the wheels on my suitcase. (That day was in fact just a few weeks ago for my sister).

Overall, what a wonderful experience flying can be. Running to connections, no leg room, sweaty strangers, sub-par food? It’s like an extremely uncomfortable and expensive Uber ride, but in the air, while hoping the plane’s engine doesn’t suddenly give out.

Ok well maybe being transported halfway across the world isn’t THAT bad. Here’s to safe plane travel in 2018!
