5 Easy Tips to Keep your Skin Clean and Healthy!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Old Westbury chapter.

Clothing, accessories and makeup are a lot of fun! But health always has to be our first priority. Healthy people are the happiest and I’m not saying that lightly. Note that I am not a health expert, this is based on my personal experience alone. I’ve never had acne but I’ve had multiple pimples randomly sticking out of my face. Everybody hates pimples! So here are some tips that often prevent them!

1. Drink water!

You’ve heard this one before. Your body needs to stay hydrated at all times! Don’t wait until you feel thirsty, that’s a sign of dehydration. According to http://health.usnews.com, you need to drink half of your body weight in ounces! The health benefits are limitless! You get a skin glow, healthier hair and the list goes on.

2. Don’t skip nighttime skin care!

We all know that it is essential to take our makeup off before bed, but sometimes, after a long day, we just don’t feel like doing anything. Washing your makeup off or simply cleansing your face at night is the most important part of skincare routine. After a long day, your body has been exposed to a lot of germs that stick to your skin and find their way under your pores. You have to make sure you kill these germs and washing your face once a day won’t cut it.

3. Organic facial masks!

Facial mask don’t clear out acne or make you face clear overnight but they are beneficial. Clay for example unclogs pores, and draws out skin toxins. Natural Living Ideas tell us more about clay.

4. Moisturize with essential oils

Most people love coconut oil! It has so many health benefits, it smells good and it feels tropical. Coconut oil clogs pores! It leaves residues under you skin that can later on lead to black heads. Use only non-comedonegic oils, meaning oils that will not clog your pores. Body Unburden listed five oils that will not clog or irritate pores such as jojoba oil, rosehip oil, hempseed oil, tamanu oil and castor oil.

5. Eat healthy!

I dare you to eat fruits and vegetables like your life depends on it for a week. I’ll leave the decision on whether you feel awesome or not up to you.
