5 Books To Read When You Need A Pause

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Old Westbury chapter.

When life gets stressful nothing is better than grabbing a book and a cup of tea. Here are five books I have loved when I needed a pause from the world.

1. Milk and Honey

This poetry book is wildly popular, and for good reason. Not only does Kaur have an amazing gift with words, but she also writes about real things people suffer through. It’s short, easy to read, and beautiful.

2. The Winter Girl

This book is not for the faint of heart, and has some rather graphic sexual violence but it captures you. It’s still a great read despite the violent nature, and is quick and easy. The story pulls you in, and it’s way better than Gone Girl in my humble opinion.

3. The Sun And Her Flowers

Kaur’s second book, but still a favorite. It’s again short, easy to read, and poignant. It’s full of nice reminders of strength, which are really important during times of stress.

4. The Green Witch

If you’re really stressed and a little bit witchy, get this book. It’s a great starter to dipping your toe into working with the Earth’s energies, and is full of great tips and reasons on energy work. I personally love it, and find just reading the book to calm me down.

5. Bone

Another beautifully written poetry book, and honestly if you are stressed and short on time I always recommend poetry. It’s easy to feel like you are actually gaining something from reading poetry, it’s normally shorter, and it can really help with emotions.

In case you’re wondering whether or not I’m qualified to give you these recommendations, I work at a mom-and-pop bookstore. So I have to know a thing or two about books.
