Whether students ageee with the article or not, the news that OSU was ranked No. 3 on Her Campus’ 2013 College Rankings has the entire university buzzing.
Students have been debating on OSU’s rank since Aug. 19, when the list was first published by the Her Campus Team. Many students continue to be surprised by OSU’s third place ranking, higher than even some of the most well-known hipster schools such as Brown University (No. 4), Colorado College (No. 7) and University of Texas at Austin (No. 10). OSU was outranked only by New York University (No. 1) and Portland State University (No. 2).
Some reasons the article gives for OSU’s high rank is the constant struggle to get coffee each morning because the entire student population rushes to Aspen Cofee Co. to enjoy their favorite flavors between classes, the increased number of mustaches spotted on campus as of late, and OSU students’ ability to take local culture and cowboy boots and incorporate them into a hipster wardrobe.
In addition to getting attention from students on campus for more than a month after its publishing date, the Her Campus 2013 College Rankings has gotten OSU and its Her Campus chapter attention from news sources such as The Daily O’Collegian, the school’s student-run newspaper, and the Tulsa World. Both news sources ran an article on OSU’s hipster ranking some time this month.
Even though the ranking’s release incited debate among students on where OSU belonged in the list, the article has drawn local and national attention to OSU’s diverse and hip student body, and people on and off campus still haven’t stopped talking about it.
