How to Effortlessly Transition Your Summer Wardrobe into Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

It’s that time again. School’s back in session, the weather’s cooling down, and of course Starbucks is bringing back our favorite seasonal flavors (looking at you, Pumpkin Spice).

If you’re anything like me though, you may find the change of seasons strenuous on your existing summer wardrobe.

That’s why I have complied the best tips on how to make that transition from summer to fall as smooth (and easy) as possible.

Layers, Layers, and More Layers!

Over the summer you may have collected pieces that you just can’t bear to part with, no matter how cold it gets. Luckily, the key to transitioning those essential pieces is to add layers! Too cold for your favorite sundress? Just add tights. That super cute tank top you can’t bear to part ways with? Throw on a cardigan or blazer. You’ll be surprised by just how much adding a layer or two can transform your look! My personal favorite fall add-on? My worn out flannel!

The key though to successful layering is to keep it simple. I like to go by a rule of ‘either or’. For example, I either cover my lower half or I cover my upper half. I either wear a tight shirt and loose bottoms or vice versa. This trick will keep you from looking too bulky- a must for summer/fall outfits!

Dark Colors Are Your Friend!

It’s no secret that fall has a certain… aesthetic. An easy way to incorporate fall colors into your bright summer wardrobe is to be selective with accessories and layers. For example, you might pair your beloved white tee with a chic olive green jacket. Your beauty routine can heavily influence the fall vibes you give off. For us girls who love to paint our faces, we know that fall makeup is characterized by smoky eyes and dark lips. Next time you wear your favorite summer outfit, try it with a darker makeup look.

Accessorize!

Accessories can make or break an outfit, and fall is no different. In order to escalate your casual summer look into a cozy autumn one, you might add a scarf or beanie. Likewise, the type of shoe you wear also holds a lot of weight. Instead of your worn out sandals, try out those brand new boots- you won’t be sorry.

With these tips your seasonal transition should be smoother than ever!
