Experiencing a US election

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

I glad to have had the chance to be in the US to experience this major event from the inside with local people and media.

Here are some points I’ll remember about that experience.

1. Thanks, ” I voted” stickers

These stickers give some people (who don’t have any political motivation) a funny motivation to go vote. Americans are so proud to get these stickers that they keep it a long long long time after the election.

2. A long, long, long night

Election day, I would rather say election night went from  7 pm to 2 am for final results. And then Trump’s speech about 3 am. A lot of motivation was needed to stay awake until the end… and I survived.

3. Media, you are biased !

As every single american channel, CNN was broadcasting the election night. But not honestly broadcasting. It was no doubt that Trump was taking over Hilary as far as the election night was going. When Hilary Clinton was winning a state, CNN unveiled it very fast. But surprisingly, CNN was taking so much time to unveil states won by Trump, and no comments about Fox News… !

4. Still confused on the American electoral college system.

The Electoral College vote has primacy over the population vote, but in the election the problem is that the electoral college vote and population vote do not have the same outcome. Clinton won the population vote, but lost the election. The majority of americans  voted for Clinton, but Trump has been elected. Is that democracy ?  Unbelievable for me as population vote is the only one that matters in french election.

5. Glad to leave the US before Trump’s presidency

Trump will offically be President on the January 20th ? Good news, I’ll leave the US on the January 4th! Perfect timing !
