Eurydice Opens OSU Theatre Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

OSU Theatre has officially began its 43rd season. On Oct. 9 “Eurydice”, a play written by Sarah Ruhl, had its opening night. The play was directed by Jodi Jenks and is the first of four shows that will be put on by the department during the 2014-2015 season. “Eurydice” will run until Oct. 18.

Many students have already attended performances. Bailey Haigler, an Intro to Theatre student, went to see the play with friends. “I really liked how close we were to the stage”, said Haigler. “We were close enough to where we could feel as if we were right in front of it”. The performances are being held in the Vivia Locke Theatre, which is in the Seretean Center and houses all OSU Theatre performances.

The OSU Theatre puts on three plays and one musical each season. While the plays usually aren’t meant to be interactive, the audience generally gets involved in the storyline and scenes. This ranges from becoming invested in the characters, to practically becoming part of the scene. “The actors kept their parts all the way through the play”, said Haigler. “In one of the scenes they dropped fruit into the pond and it splashed all over the people beside us”.

Not all OSU students know when plays are being put on, and not everyone has the time to go see a show. However, supporting the OSU Theatre is a rewarding experience. The shows have a lot of time and work put into them and it shows in the performances. Students who have made the time to attend shows recommend that everyone try to go at least once. “I am seriously recommending attending more plays”, said Haigler. “I had never been to a play before but thought this was awesome”.

“Eurydice” will have its next performance at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16.
