Wren Fest 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

The first annual Wren Fest 2012 was a good time for all involved. With many opportunities to participate in games and possibly even win some stellar prizes, the fans were clearly enjoying themselves. Games and prizes were not the main reason people were there however; they came to watch some baseball in the fall!

The 2013 bobcat baseball team gave OU a sample of the skill acquired this year and what to expect in the spring. During the scrimmage it was White against Green, with the latter proving victorious (10-2). No losers were present that night however as players simply cycled through, not playing for a particular color but as one solid team showcasing a positive lineup and a lot of possibility for success in the regular season.

The first hit of the game was a solid smack down the third-base line by sophomore Taylor Emody. Green racked up two hits, one by junior Dan Schmidt and the other by junior Chandler Geller, but the first inning ended with no numbers on the board for either team.

The first run of the game came in the second inning after two base hits by sophomores Garrett Black and Scott White set Emody up for a big play. With runners on third and first Emody contributed a solid hit, allowing his teammates to round the bases and put White up 2-0. Green was unable to answer, and three quick outs ended the inning.

White continued to dominate as Dan Green took one for the team in the 3rd inning when he was hit with a pitch. Freshman Jake Madsen was walked and sophomore Kyle Dean and junior Zach Ross followed with two base hits. The bases were loaded when freshman Tyler Wells took the plate; he was able to smack one far enough and White added 2 more runs to their lead. Wells made a daring move and stole second and Madsen wasn’t going to let his teammates ambition go to waste as his strong hit allowed Wells to sprint home for another run.

Wells and Madsen ended the night with 3 RBI’s while Enemy and Ross each had two. Freshman Logan Cozar contributed one RBI in the 4th inning with a base hit that allowed senior Shane Cole to run from second and beat the ball to home plate.

The Green team finally put some points on the board with Madsen’s final hit of the game and only RBI he contributed to the Green side. Green was able to squeeze one more run in before the first annual Wren Fest was over with a final score of 10-2 White.

The most victorious person in the stadium that night was none of the players however, but rather it was the fan whose winning raffle ticket cashed her in $500 richer!
