We all have those Twitter pages that we follow just for a laugh. There are even celebrities we follow just hoping they’ll read a tweet you mention them in. Well, there is a Twitter page that fits all this criteria and it’s right here in Athens.
Senior magazine journalism student, Kristen Kuntz made the Twitter handle @OnlyinAthensOH after an experience she had with her friends.
“A few friends and I were driving on East State Street, and we saw a man and a sleeping child in a van with a gas mask dangling over the kid’s head. The first thing we all said was ‘only in Athens,’” says Kuntz. “That’s actually the first tweet on the page I did.”
The page highlights the insane and outrageous things Ohio University students see everyday in Athens. Ranging from crazy fest scenes to weird happenings on Court Street to calling out freshmen for doing freshmen things, @OnlyinAthensOH covers all the goings-on this college town has to offer.
Kuntz, who updates the page daily wanted the page to get many follows for the laughs it provides.
“I wanted to get laughter out of it,” Kuntz says. “Every student that lives in Athens loves it here and knows that there are some weird townies that do some weird things. But they’re funny!”
With Athens being such a small town, Kuntz believes only OU students and townies would understand the outlandish things she tweets about.
“I literally tweet what I see and what others see,” says Kuntz. “I have no need to make anything up because the material is just waiting for mw when I walk out the door. It’s easy.”
With 350 followers, and a background featuring past fests and old Halloween photos, Kuntz is steadily gaining an OU audience on Twitter. The page may be little now, but Kuntz thinks @OnlyinAthensOH is unique enough to attract more followers.
“An OU students should follow this page because it’s funny and only they will understand,” she says. Neither friends from back home nor your parents will quite understand what @OnlyinAthensOH has to offer. “Maybe your weird uncle who went here in the ’70s will (understand), but it’s unique to our student body.”
Not only will this page make you laugh, it will give you nostalgia once Athens is no longer your home. Kuntz urges the OU student body to follow her hysterical page.
“These things happen here all the time,” she says, “and people think they’re funny so I wanted to start a Twitt
