Thrifting for Festing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

As we look at the mud stained shorts laying on the ground and the shirt we have to throw away because the scent of beer can never washed out we remember another fest. The one thing on every girls mind when preparing for a fest is what am I going to wear? With pictures being snapped constantly and the fear of ruining yet another outfit it’s hard to decide what to wear. To solve this problem there is only one solution I could think of, thrifting. I made it my mission to find an outfit for 9 fest that was cute and comfortable that wouldn’t hurt my wallet.
Athens has a variety of stores to choose from. My personal favorite, and where I found my outfit, was Athens Underground. Entering the store and looking around at all the clothes, bag, hats, and so much more is overwhelming. I suggest having a shopping partner to help ease the load. Athens Underground has a vast variety of clothes to choose from. Most of the options are out dated and not exactly the vibe I was going for. After searching the racks for about forty-five minutes I started to get discourage when finally I found a pair of running shorts that was perfect! I instantly perked up and was ready to finish this outfit. Once I found my shorts everything seemed to just fall into my hands.
Next I found a t-shirt that was light and broken in, perfect to cut into a tank top, and an old baseball cap, that didn’t actually make it to 9. At the end of the trip I spent a little over ten dollars and had the perfect outfit to fest in! I would recommend this to any girl that is looking for a cheap way to save her clothes but still have a great outfit for any fest.
A few suggestions I have for any thrift store shoppers are, start at the end of the rack and just go down the row hanger by hanger. This is time consuming so make sure you have plenty of time to shop. Look around the entire store! There were so many hidden treasures in the back that I almost looked over. Lastly, don’t give up or get discouraged!
Thrifting is hard and you need patience. Most of the clothes you see won’t be what you are looking for but trust me they’re out there! Thrifting is fun and a great alternative to buying an expensive outfit anywhere else.
