Thank you, Taylor Swift

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

Dear Taylor Swift,

I’ve been a devoted, dedicated fan of yours since about 2010. You’ve had

such a positive impact on my life, and now, I’m in a position where I can

publicly thank you for that. So on behalf of all of the Swifties out there,

I’d like to take this opportunity to say a few things.

Thank you for your music. YOU GET ME, TAYLOR. Okay, maybe not me,

specifically (although, you do), but you understand people in general.

And because of that, you’re able to write some super relatable music.

What if you’re just enchanted to meet someone? You have a song for

that. Maybe you wish someone would call back, or maybe everything

has changed and you want to begin again. Maybe you’re sick and tired of

the haters, the liars, and the cheats of the world, and you just want to

shake…it…off. You have songs for that, too. And they’re all wonderful.

Gold stars, all around.

Thank you for making red lipstick cool again. You pretty much single-

handedly resurrected this trend, and I’m so, so glad you did. You rock

that red-lipped, classic thing.

Thank you for showing me that the best revenge is success. We all have

people in our lives that don’t have our best interests at heart, and you

are no exception. It’s easy to want to get those people back for things

they may have said, or to get even with them for things that they’ve

done to us. But you are definitive proof that success is the best kind of

revenge! You’ve taught us to turn our hurt feelings into focus and drive,

and to create and succeed in spite of them! You own who you are and

you’ve honed your skills and you’ve won so many Grammys and written

fantastic songs, so now you’re inarguably awesome.

Thank you for teaching me that you don’t have to be in a relationship to

be happy. It’s so very easy to use a relationship as a marker for success,

and to place your happiness in the hands of other people. But see, the

thing about placing your happiness in the hands of others is that they

have total control over it, and when they leave, they can take it away. If

we are in control of our own happiness, and if we focus on loving

ourselves first, nobody can take that away from us – and the rest will fall

into place.

Thank you for always being so kind to your fans. As if gifting us with

your incredible girl-power anthems wasn’t enough, you continue to

spoil us with the riches of Swiftmas and your inherent positivity.

Taylor Alison Swift. Thank you for always encouraging us to be fearless,

and to love in shades of red. You’ll never go out of style.
