St. Patty’s Green Beer Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.
We may be known to be a party school, and to have a crazy fest season, but how do we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? First, with Green Beer Day.

A tradition that began in Oxford, Ohio, has earned its name in Athens as a day that students cannot wait for. Beginning early in the day, March 12 this year, students are rushing to the bars on Court Street in order to get their green-colored beer. Need to go to class? No problem. Students show up inebriated, but hey, they still go.

Green Beer Day isn’t celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day but it makes a good pre-game. As you know, OU tends go hard rather than go home.

So what about actual St. Patrick’s Day? Surely, people will hit the bars Monday night in their “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” tees and green beads. But Green Beer Day may have it topped. Either way, students find an excuse to hit the bars and pretend they’re Irish.
