For many schools, sorority recruitment is happening now. With recruitment season comes glittery recruitment videos, stressed out potential new members, actives and groups of women doing their best to navigate campus in their sky-high heels. In the sorority world, Bid Day is like Christmas, but instead of receiving gifts, you get the opportunity to meet girls who may end up being your little, your big or your best friend. But, to get to the magical Bid Day, those participating in recruitment experience many emotions and consume many Starbucks Refreshers.

Potential New Member: I am going to die from the stress of picking out my outfit before even making it to the first house.

Seriously, how am I supposed to find anything to go with this damn recruitment T-shirt that says “I’m a stylish woman who knows how to pick out a basic outfit” but also isn’t obvious that I’ve tried on every pair of shoes in my closet?

Active: Thank the Lord my outfit is planned out for me.

Although, frantically searching the mall for a dress that was the perfect color was hell like no other.

PNM: How the hell did someone manage to dress up a simple shirt like that? Are we on “Gossip Girl” or are we going through sorority rush?

Some people need to do less.

Active: When you think about it, it’s kind of weird that a group of college women are wearing matching outfits.

Also, I just realized all my lip gloss game off when I chugged that Redbull this morning. Typical.

PNM: Ok. We’re walking… wait is that singing I hear in the distance?

Holy shit. That sound is coming from inside the house. What are they even saying? I’m pretty sure my relatives in the next state can hear this.

Active: If I have to sing any louder my vocal chords are going to break.

And can you develop calluses from excessive clapping? Is that a thing?

PNM: Well the door is opening so here we go.

There are so many singing clapping girls here. I kind of understand what Dory felt like when she got caught in that fishing net with all the other fish rushing about in different directions.

Active: Do not fall down the stairs. Don’t do it.

PNM: Ok. Simple conversation. You can do that. That’s easy right?

Oh lord, it’s so loud that I have no idea what this girl said her name is. What’s my major? Where am I from? I don’t remember life before entering this house. Don’t be weird

Active: I have never smiled so much in my life.

I feel like the expression “It takes more muscles to frown than to smile” has to be scientifically wrong because my cheeks feel like my abs do after an insane workout.

PNM: All these girls look gorgeous and how the heck are they managing to casually walk around in six-inch wedges?

Meanwhile, it’s so hot out that I’m just praying my eye makeup is still intact.

Active: My feet are on the verge of falling off.

PNM: Ok now that this round is over I only have nine more houses to go.

That actually wasn’t that bad. I can do this forever.

Active: I need seven more iced coffees.

I also think my mouth is permanently stuck in a smile.

PNM: Oh the Greek alphabet!!!!! That’s what they’re singing!

And it only took going to five houses to realize that.

Active: I will have this song stuck in my head for the rest of my life

But, hey, knowing the Greek alphabet may come in handy eventually. Like if I’m on a game show or move to Greece.

PNM: All these houses are so beautiful.

Do college women actually live here? This is the kind of place goddesses would live in. Get it? Goddesses? Greek life? I need to remember not to make this joke while talking to anyone.

Active: My legs are going to look so killer from walking up and down the stairs in these heels all day.

PNM: Well, it’s the night before Bid Day and I’ve never been more nervous.

Every sorority is so great– so which is going to be the right one for me?

Active: It’s the night before bid day and I’ve never been so exhausted

But, it’s basically like Christmas Eve so I’ll be too excited to sleep tonight!

PNM: It’s Bid Day! The moment of truth!

Whatever name is inside this envelope will make me happy. I’m really glad I decided to go through recruitment.

Active: Yay! New Members!

This may have been the longest few days of my life but I’m really glad I’m in a sorority. I’ll always be grateful in my choice to join a sorority.
