Girl Code Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.
Ohio University’s Campus Involvement Center hosted the Comedians of MTV’s Girl Code and Guy Code at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium
on Wednesday, September 17. Audience members laughed at and with Carly Aquilino, Jamie Lee and Jermaine Fowler.

Each comedian started off their segment by teasing everybody about all of the grass and trees and even the squirrels in Ohio. They all basically wondered what people actually do in Ohio.

All did a wonderful job keeping the audience involved. Singling out audience members whose yell sounded exactly like a foghorn to embarrassing the couples in crowd made the show even funnier.

Long Island native Aquilino first opened the show with her comedy act. Aquilino talked about farts, oral sex, cheaters and alcohol. With it being a college-aged focused show, Aquilino went into further details about the previous topics. She most popular category was drinking alcohol. She mentioned her favorite thing to do is drink and especially in other cities.

Also, many of her raunchy jokes and references had a high chance of being extremely relatable to college women. From late night booty calls to waking up to an empty box of pizza multiple days a week, Aquilino definitely opened the show with nonstop laughter.

Jamie Lee, the following act, covered topics from how girls’ voices go up a few octaves when they’re drunk to buff men becoming a dying breed. Another topic Lee talked about was Jewish stereotypes. Being half-Jewish, Lee went into depth about them. However, Lee probably did not do her research regarding the controversies between OU’s Student Senate and the campus’s Jewish community. Let’s say audience members felt some awkward tension in the building.

Lee did eventually change the religion topic and joked about pubic hair, vaginas and penis sizes. Like mentioned before, the comedians, especially Lee, brought the raunchy, non-conservative humor to the Memorial Auditorium.

The final act of the night was Jermaine Fowler. From the start, his anecdotes made the crowd crack up laughing. Adding to his jokes, Fowler had a cute giggle that made him even more likable, laughable and lovable.

Fowler did not fail to bring the raunchy, provocative and crude humor. He cracked jokes about his previous boss at Quiznos to pointing out how his aunt makes grammatically incorrect Facebook posts way too often. Fowler did have a few drug and porn references, but still had the audience in tears.
Watching all of the acts were worth the $15-25. Their stand-up performances will have audience members running home to watch more of the comedy acts.
