8 Reasons We Can’t Wait for Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

1. EATING ALL THE FOOD
We know you’re thinking about it, so we might as well just get it out of the way. Whether you’re a turkey, ham, or Chinese take-out person, the decadent dinner is everybody’s favorite part of Thanksgiving. Put your stretchy pants on and prepare to enjoy!

2. Sleeping in our own beds
This one’s geared more towards our dorm-dwelling collegiettes. That egg crate mattress pad might seem like heaven after studying for six hours straight, but nothing is quite like the bed back home.

3. Showering without shoes
Here’s another luxury for the dorm ladies. Having to wear shoes in the shower is perhaps one of the most annoying things about dorm life, in my opinion at least. Unless someone can tell me where to find these contraptions pictured above; they look pretty fancy.

4. Seeing our pets and friends from back home
COME HERE AND LOVE ME WITH THAT BIG SLOBBERY NOSE. (Don’t say that to your human friends though…unless you’re really that close.)

5. Shopping on Black Friday
The crazed hordes of shoppers looking for deals that appear late Thanksgiving night and extremely early Friday morning never fail to amuse. Some like to take part in the activities, while others simply enjoy hearing the recounts on the news of the fights that broke out over the latest toy. Either way, Black Friday shopping is most definitely a Thanksgiving staple!

6. Watching the Macy’s Day Parade
I don’t care how old you are. Absolutely nothing is cooler than a blow-up Spider Man that reaches the fifth floor of a building.

7. Going into a tryptophan coma

Although this is closely related to the excitement from the plethora of food, the mysterious deep slumber we tend to slip into after finishing that third helping of turkey is a Thanksgiving rite of passage. Provided access to a warm blanket and even a semi-comfortable couch, I’ll be out for at least three hours.

8. Listening to Alice’s Restaurant
For some reason, my family has the tradition of listening to this song that’s almost twenty minutes in length every Thanksgiving. It’s a bit of a throwback, being from 1967. Its full title is “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree,” and it tells the story of the Thanksgiving events at – you guessed it – Alice’s Restaurant. This quirky, endearing song (that’s actually better described as a monologue) never fails to come on the radio Thursday morning, and my mom always makes sure to round us all up to listen.
