7 Reasons Why Hocus Pocus is the Best Movie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

With Halloween right around the corner, it is time to discuss the fact that “Hocus Pocus” is the best movie in existence. While scary movies may be the go-to, it is important to see the magical 1993 Disney movie set in Salem, Massachusetts based around the Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Sarah and Mary, who are resurrected by Max Dennison when he lights a black flame candle on Halloween. Here is just a short list of 7 reasons why this is the best Halloween movie that everyone should watch:

1. So much 90s goodness

From the outfits to the haircuts to the lingo, nothing screams the 90s much like “Hocus Pocus.” This movie will bring everyone back to simpler times. At any given moment, a fantastic 90s moment is clearly seen.

2. Thackery Binx and Max Dennison

There is no denying that most first crushes were on the actors who played Thackery Binx (Sean Murray) and Max Dennison (Omri Katz). Max was the epitome of the 90s with his haircut and style. Murray can now be seen in his role as Timothy McGee in NCIS.

3. Bad parenting

One of the most relatable themes is the bad parenting seen throughout the movie. Most can agree that at some point, their parents did not believe them that something that was happening. Every adult does not listen or believe Max, Allison or Dani about the Sanderson Sisters. Even at the Town Hall Halloween Party when the sisters are there, no one believes that they are really them or that they are harmful.

4. the “I Put a Spell on You” performance

Hands down the best musical performance. When the Sanderson Sisters come together to sing at the Town Hall Halloween Party. You can’t help but sing along to this perfect song and dance performance even though they are putting a trance on everyone to sing and dance until they die.

5. Amazing acting

The entire cast does an amazing job portraying their roles. The Sanderson Sisters are beyond believable and you better bet that younger me was terrified of them.

6. Quotable to the max

Just about every line of this movie can be quoted and used in daily life. From the sister’s remarks to Dani’s one-liners, this movie gives the perfect quotes that can still be related to and used to this day.

7. Quality drinking games

If of legal age, “Hocus Pocus” has amazing drinking games that are one search away from being played. Here is a perfect example of an easy game to play with a group of friends on a night in:

Whether you agree or disagree, give “Hocus Pocus” a chance and watch it this fall.
