Why Writing Is My Life!

I absolutely love writing. Like, literally I am obsessed and probably need some help because I love it so much. It wasn’t until I started writing for HerCampus that I realized how much I truly enjoyed it. Mind you, I have always had a ton of handwritten journals and my own blog. When I was younger I used to write up my own stories and I have always been a fan of writing out my thoughts. So, it has always been something that I have enjoyed doing but I more so looked at it as a pastime and not a passion. It’s actually kind of frustrating that I didn’t realize this sooner because I am about to graduate and really wishing I would have chosen a journalism minor instead of the psychology one. *inserts upside down smiley face emoji*

Writing for HC has really opened up my eyes to an ability that I was scared to express. Yes, I had my own blog but I always felt like my writing wasn’t good enough for anyone to read. I honestly didn’t think that anyone would care enough to read it either. Due to that, I never really got serious about it and definitely lacked the motivation to keep it up and running. I love writing for HC because it kind of gives my writing a purpose. I feel like I am able to reach so many more people thanks to the platform it provides. I have always wanted to help others and I truly feel that writing about life is my way of doing so.

To me, writing is therapeutic. It helps me organize my thoughts and get emotions out that I’m not so good at expressing verbally. I am one of those people whose mind is constantly racing a mile a minute. Writing seems to be the only way that I can capture some of what is going on in my head. I have so much to say and want to express but majority of the time it is very difficult for me to do so, especially in group settings. Writing helps me put things into perspective. I carry around a journal with me everywhere that I go. I never know when an idea or the urge to write is going to hit me. I found that doing this, I am actually able to keep track of my madness and it truly helps me pinpoint what I want to write about.

I have always felt that I struggled from horribly from artistic build up. I am a very expressive person and always struggled letting my creativity soar. I tried painting, photography, and even modeling but none of those methods seemed to work long term for me. After 21 years, I truly have found my passion and I could not be more joyus. I look forward to improving my writing skills and being able to take over the world with my work.

Hi everyone, I'm Petra (PEE-truh) and I'm an ODU alumna who has branched out to sunny Southern California. Following graduation, I didn't have too much of a plan for where I was going in life but I knew to stay in Virginia was not an option. I wanted more than what was offered there so I started applying to almost every job in all my dream cities and life led me to San Diego. I now do sales, marketing and social media management for a great startup company, Voterfied. I love everything about San Diego and the work I'm doing here. So my advice to everyone, get out of your comfort zone! Take that leap of faith and let life guide you to exactly where you're meant to be. HCXO, Petra!
