This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ODU chapter.

Okay now ladies *in my Travis Potter voice* Spring/Summer 2k17 is finally among us. If you went away for spring break, you are probably longing for warm weather, carefree vibes and of course fashion! While mother nature is a little indecisive at the moment, I am here to help you get your wardrobe up to par for when she decides to get her life together.

Denim

Everything denim seems to be the recent craze. From denim boots, mini skirts, and even sandals. People are infatuated! Denim is truly a trend that will never die out. I never thought I would wear a denim mini-skirt again but, here I am fumbling through my old clothes to find one. Denim boots are really another item I never imagined spending money on. I remember seeing my mother and her friends strut around in their denim boots when I was younger. I guess it’s true what they say, the most ridiculous trends always comes back.

Here is a picture of fashion icon RiRi rocking the all denim look oh so fabulously.

Embroidery

This is another fashion trend that isn’t dying off anytime this spring or summer. Embroidery is really the perfect way to take your outfit from drab to fab in an instant. YouTube personality Amber Scholl offers multiple ways to DIY embroidered skirts and shoes AT HOME and get this, FOR CHEAP!

Check out how Kris Jenner’s embroidered jacket turned something boring into something super luxe!

Fishnets

Something we thought to be a thing of the past but here we are wearing any and everything made from fishnets. These were semi-shamed in the past years and seen as slutty and not flattering. Though some may still agree with those statements, fishnets are something we are going to see a lot of this spring/summer. Many girls are sporting fishnets under ripped jeans, as socks, or even shirts. I actually am obsessed with the look and really think this simple addition takes a dull outfit to the next level.

Here you can see the most popular way ladies seem to be rocking this look. Shoutout to Kim K for the inspo.

Satin

A trend that began last year and will be continuing. Luckily, all the money you spent on those satin tank tops and dresses, you will still be able to put to good use. Satin has been a really popular material used for women’s clothing over the last year. There is a new style where women dress as if they just got out of bed wearing their favorite lingerie. This is not a bad thing, if done correctly. I think satin items are a must-have in your closet because they definitely add some texture to your outfit and texture is everything.

Here you can see Khloe Kardashian owning the “just rolled out bed in lingerie” look. Definitely super simple, sexy and leaves her to accomplish her day in the most casual way.

Though some of these trends may not be your taste, be ready to see all the “instagram models” showing of these looks throughout the rest of the year. One thing I do love about all of these trends, is that they are all extremely versatile. You can make these simple items fit into whatever style you claim and you can find them all for cheap. Don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone when it comes to fashion. Make sure you are wearing the item and don’t allow the item to wear you and you’ll end up being everyone’s fashion inspo! Happy shopping!

Hi everyone, I'm Petra (PEE-truh) and I'm an ODU alumna who has branched out to sunny Southern California. Following graduation, I didn't have too much of a plan for where I was going in life but I knew to stay in Virginia was not an option. I wanted more than what was offered there so I started applying to almost every job in all my dream cities and life led me to San Diego. I now do sales, marketing and social media management for a great startup company, Voterfied. I love everything about San Diego and the work I'm doing here. So my advice to everyone, get out of your comfort zone! Take that leap of faith and let life guide you to exactly where you're meant to be. HCXO, Petra!
