Ryan McCabe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Name: Ryan McCabe

Hometown: Sylvania, Ohio

Major: Film & TV

Year: 2015

Favorite Movie: “Easily Dumb and Dumber by the Farrelly brothers.  My favorite aspect of that film, beyond the writing and unmatched performances, is that every time I watch it I find something new to laugh at.”

Favorite Show: “SNL. Ever since I was seven I’ve watched the show religiously.”

Favorite Quote: Alfred J. Pennyworth (2005) “Why do we fall sir? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.”

Go-to Repeat Song on iPod: Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen

Fun fact:  “I performed a comedic skit at the HEAR NOW festival opposite Barbara Rosenblatt (Ms. Rosa in Orange is the New Black).”

HC NYU: What are your activities and interests?RM: I love drawing, be it cartoons or life models, rock climbing, shooting hoops, writing, and constructing props or modeled sets for film; work that’s really hands on. My interests include: comedy, specifically stand up and sketch, superhero films and comics (very guilty pleasure), impersonations both vocally and in mannerism, great detective stories, and music (more specifically rock and roll or soul).

HC NYU: Future goals and aspirations? RM: It is a huge passion of mine to one day direct or act in some kind of Hollywood blockbuster. Regarding aspirations, I’d love to create a televised comedy show.  To spread laughter on a broad scale is unquestionably one of my most cherished goals.

HC NYU: Tell us about your current projects/the works you’re most proud of.RM: Recently I finalized my intermediate film The Adventures of Captain Contraceptive, to which I owe serious gratitude to my talented cast and crew. Beyond that, I created a YouTube show for actress Whoopi Goldberg, called Can of Whoop Cartoons. Thus far in my film career, it is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had yet.

HC NYU: So tell us how you’d show a girl a good time.RM: Not every girl is the same, but what I would like to do, beyond the simple answer of dinner and a movie, is walk along the Chelsea Piers. We could grab food in the area, sunbathe in one of the many nearby park, or simply stroll along the water’s edge and talk of life.

HC NYU: What do you look for in a girl?RM: I look for someone who can have fun going out or doing nothing. A good conversationalist who speaks her mind, and isn’t afraid to voice her opinions.  I really like people who are giving to others and passionate about what they do, but the most important detail, is someone with a great sense of humor. A girl that can laugh at herself goes long way in my book.
