HC NYUWhat are your activities and interests? LK I love art, so I try to see as many exhibitions throughout the city at all of the museums and galleries as I can. I also really love live music, so I go to at least one music festival every year.
HC NYU Who do you look to for inspiration/what figures do you find to have admirable qualities? LK There are many inspirational figures in the creative industries that I admire. Kelly Cutrone and Sophia Amoruso have both written great books about their experiences finding themselves and creating their own paths in life that were very inspiring to me.
HC NYU Are you currently working on any projects that you’re proud of? LK For the past year, I have had the amazing opportunity to serve as the Co-Executive Director of NYDM, NYU’s dance marathon benefitting The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. On November 16th, members of NYU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life community will gather together to dance for 12 hours to fight pediatric cancer. Last year, we raised over $126,000, making us the largest first-year dance marathon in US history, and this year we hope to raise even more. I could not be more proud to be a part of the amazing team that has put so much hard work into planning this event, and I can’t wait to see how far we can go!
HC NYU What particularly about the cause draws you to it? LK I love that NYDM is not just about philanthropy, but also involves hands-on service. I have never been drawn to charities that just ask you to cut them a check and then you never hear from them again. The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation has been an incredible beneficiary in that they provide the fabulous structure of the B+ Heroes program as well as support in bringing awareness for the cause with us all year long. I can’t think of a better philanthropic organization to be receiving the money we raise at NYDM. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids and how simple it is to make a huge impact on their day, and on their lives, and in turn how they deeply impact yours. The B+ attitude is infectious, and I LOVE it.
