Dagne Dover: The Perfect School Bag You Didn’t Know You Were Looking For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Remember that moment in Mary Poppins with the bag?  The one where she pulls all that stuff out of it (and then some)?  Remember when you looked at your own sad, sad bag, the one that you both love and hate in equal measure, the one that has you scrounging around for that ID you need in a wave of morning class-rush while people shoot you annoyed looks because, really, why is it taking you so long to get your ID out anyway?

It’s not me, you want to tell them.  It’s my bag.

Not if you had a Dagne Dover.

The Dagne Dover bag is the type of invention where, once it’s hit the market, you wonder why no one came up with it sooner.  Created two years ago by now-CEO Melissa Mash (an NYU, don’t you know?), creative director Jessy Dover, and COO Deepa Gandhi, the company takes its rather eclectic title from Ms. Dover’s surname and the Nordic word for “New Dawn.”  According to the whimsical tag attached to the bag, the ladies of Dagne Dover “couldn’t find bags that worked for [them], so [they] created them.” And boy, what a creation this bag is.

First off, the aesthetics are beautiful.  The shape, the structure, the coated canvas material: right off the bat the Dagne Dover bags come off as classy with a sense of utility.  And although there are only three colors (onyx, Dagne blue, and linen), each one is as vibrant as an HD photo, a surefire way to spice up a casual outfit.  The  inside of the bag, however, is far from casual.

If you happen to purchase Dagne Dover’s signature item simply named “The Tote,” you’re basically carrying your life in your hands.  Pictured below are all the times the bag can hold:

Even further below are pictures of the bag itself– with everything in it:

Get the Mary Poppins reference now?  This bag is what the original idea of what a bag should be: something that carries everything.  However Dagne Dover bags go above and beyond by carrying everything and being cute at the same time.  The Tote has sleeves for everything: 15 inch laptops; your choice of an iPad, Tablet, or Notebook; wallet; cellphones; ID holders; water bottles; umbrellas; detachable key straps; and even some pen and lip-gloss compartments (three, to be exact) to boot.  Plus there’s room to spare for whatever loose change that’s make its way to the bottom of your bag by the end of the night.  Zip all of it up with the accented gold zipper, and you’re good to go with the perfect school bag slung over your shoulder.

If the Tote is too much for you, though, there’s always the option of the mini-tote, which holds just as much (only in smaller sizes and quantities, of course) and comes with an additional exterior pocket for the Dagne Dover clutch wallet.  But no matter which Dagne Dover product you get you can be sure of one thing: ever single need will be met.

No more wondering which deep cavern of your bag your wallet might be in; no more panicking because you can’t find your keys or your cellphone.  Dagne Dover perfectly organizes your essentials within the bag so the added stress of wondering whether or not you lost something is eliminated.

Now take a look.  Treat yourself.  Keep your eyes peeled for special fall and holiday collections (as well as a few honorable mentions in InStyle, WWD, and Fashionista) and remember one thing: Dagne Dover created the bag that works for you because you hadn’t found it yet.
